Embark on the journey of a lifetime—an awe-inspiring ascent to the rooftop of Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world, rises majestically above the East African plains. The Lemosho Route offers one of the most scenic and successful paths to the summit, giving you the time to acclimatize properly while soaking in the breathtaking beauty of the landscapes around you.
Let’s take you there—step by step, all the way to Uhuru Peak
Lemosho Gate to Forest Camp | 2–3 hrs.
Your adventure begins! After a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, continue through lush rainforests, where you may spot colobus monkeys and exotic birds. You'll camp tonight at Forest Camp (2,650 m), nestled among towering trees and the sounds of the wild.
Forest Camp to Shira Plateau | 6–7 hrs.
Today you ascend out of the forest into heath and moorland. The vast Shira Plateau stretches before you, revealing your first full views of Kibo Peak. Camp under a canopy of stars at Shira One Camp.
Shira One to Shira Hut via Cathedral Point | 4–5 hrs.
Take it slow and steady as you explore volcanic rock formations and hike to Cathedral Point (3,750 m), a perfect spot for panoramic views. Continue to Shira Hut (3,840 m) with vistas reaching to Mount Meru.
Shira Hut to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower | 5–7 hrs.
Hike high today—up to Lava Tower at 4,550 m—then descend into the lush Barranco Valley (3,900 m). This climb-high, sleep-low strategy is key for acclimatization. Enjoy dinner at the foot of the Barranco Wall..
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp | 4–5 hrs.
Tackle the dramatic Barranco Wall and be rewarded with sweeping views of Kibo’s icy slopes. Traverse stunning alpine landscapes to reach Karanga Camp (4,000 m). Rest or opt for a short acclimatization walk.
A short but steep trek leads you to Barafu Camp (4,600 m), your base before the summit push. After lunch, an optional hike to 4,800 m helps your body adjust. Go to bed early—the summit awaits.
Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp | 11–15 hrs.
At midnight, your summit bid begins. Hike under a starlit sky toward Stella Point (5,735 m) to witness a golden sunrise. From there, push onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the crown of Africa. Celebrate briefly, then descend to Millennium Camp (3,800 m) for a well-earned rest..
Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate | 3–5 hrs
Descend through the rainforest, where the air grows thicker and greener with every step. At Mweka Gate, you'll receive a certificate and be transported back to your lodge for a hot shower and a celebratory dinner..
Spend your final day in Arusha or Moshi at your leisure—explore local markets, enjoy a massage, or simply rest those tired legs. In the afternoon, we’ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home—or on to your next Tanzanian adventure.
